Towards a Conceptual Core for Multicultural Processing: A Multilingual Ontology Based on the Swadesh List

چکیده
The work presented here is situated in the broader project of creating of multilingual lexical resources with a focus on Asian languages. In the paper, we describe the design of the upper-level we are creating for our multi-lingual lexical resources. Among the current efforts devoted to this issue our work put the focus on (i) the language diversity aiming at massively multi-lingual resource, and (ii) the attention devoted to the ontological design of the upper level.

Basic Lexicon and Shared Ontology for Multilingual Resources: A SUMO+MILO Hybrid Approach
A common conceptual infrastructure is crucial for multilingual language processing and documentation. Global Wordnet (GWN) was proposed as the common infrastructure for linguistically motivated conceptual representations for all languages. Two critical issues in this line of research are: the scarcity of lexical semantic information (especially from endangered languages), and the lack of a shar...
متن کاملTowards a Common Conceptual Framework of Language Documentation
Language represents shared conventionalization of concepts by all speakers. Hence language documentation preserves information far beyond a collection of sound shapes, lexical forms, and grammatical structures. The preservation of linguistically conventionalized conceptual structure is even more crucial for endangered language since this information is very often not available elsewhere. Howeve...
متن کاملUsing the Swadesh list for creating a simple common taxonomy
The long-term goal of the research described in this paper is to develop a multilingual language resource linked to the Princeton WordNet. The paper describes the experiments we are conducing for determining a basic vocabulary and for designing a language-independent core for the future resource. More precisely, in this paper we use the universality of the Swadesh list [15] for selecting it as ...
متن کاملProposing an OntoLex-MMoOn Alignment: Towards an Interconnection of two Linguistic Domain Models
This paper motivates and proposes to align the OntoLex and MMoOn Core models. It deals in particular with the ontolex and decomp modules and their potential as ontological foundation to represent the domain of morphological language data (MLD). It will be argued that ontolex and decomp provide only a basic modelling of the domain, which is not sufficient for representing fine-grained MLD, but s...
متن کاملHave conceptual reforms (and one anti- reform) in preservice teacher education improved the education of multicultural, multilingual children and youth?
This article examines three conceptual reforms in US teacher education (competency-based teacher education (CBTE), reflective teacher education (RTE) and constructivist teacher education (CTE)) for their effects on the education of multicultural, multilingual youth, as well as considering alternative certification (AC), known here as an ‘anti-reform’. The author suggests that although each refo...
